Gilles Balmet, ‘Looking through the window’ on until 19th October
This weekend, in celebration of ‘La Rentrée’ (September when everyone in Paris comes back from holiday) many of the city’s galleries held a ‘vernissage’ which is French for exhibition opening. I managed to work my way around about 15 of them, which was tiring but the odd free glass of wine helped!
I’ll be writing about more of them in good time but I thought I’d start with Waterfalls by Gilles Balmet which I found in the Dominique Fiat gallery, smack bang in the middle of Le Marais, the area of Paris which is home to most of the city’s best-known galleries which means you can hop from gallery to gallery in minutes. I loved the ink wash technique the artist uses and the soothing effect it seemed to have on everyone who looked at it, especially me.
